My first encounter with shame was as an 11-year-old returning home from a weekend at Girl Scout camp. Our group leader, the mother of one of my friends, was driving several of us home on a Sunday afternoon.
As we approached my house, panic struck. A voice inside me said, "You can't let your friends see where you live." I was ashamed of my home with the chipping paint, sagging foundation and yard full of sandspurs.
Even at this young age I had carefully crafted my image as a happy, academically talented middle-class girl. My real home, I thought, didn't fit the image I had created in order to fit in.

Yvonne Ulmer, M.Ed., is a certified professional coach who has a passion for helping people discover their gifts and talents, and then helping them utilize their strengths to achieve peak performance. She received her training as a coach through the College of Executive Coaching, Santa Barbara, California. Yvonne co-chairs the membership committee for the Tampa Bay Professional Coaches Association (TBPCA) and is an active member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
Yvonne’s clients include lawyers, educators, writers, sales professionals and individuals who are exploring a career transition. She describes her clients as well adjusted, educated, motivated and optimistic. They have a desire to create the future of their dreams and enjoy having a think partner to help them strategize a plan and hold them accountable in reaching their goals.
Yvonne is a graduate of Leadership St. Pete, class of 2004, and has been a member of the LSP planning committee for incoming classes for several years. She is active in the community, serving on the Board of the Leadership St. Pete Alumni Association (LSPAA) and on the Board of the Morean Arts Center. As a member of the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce, she is part of the Women’s Leadership Council and on the 2013 iconic Women Planning committee.
Yvonne is honored to have been selected as a finalist for the 2012 iconic Women of St. Petersburg, Celebrating Women of Vision, in the category of businesses with more than 50 employees.
Yvonne is married to Judge Ray E. “Gene” Ulmer, Jr. They are the proud parents of two children, five grandchildren and a little Maltese named “Fancy”.
